A certain freak

Depraved and drunk the night caved and birthed

A certain freak and soon this certain freak filled

All the grottos and lagoons with her colossal weirdness

And nobody understood her in the jungle for her words were

Mistaken for dirty airs so yellow in pulchritude, so septic and oh

Nobody understood her

And so banished she was to a faraway land in which

The deeply green ends held not water but concrete and the trees

Were exiled in place of skying beams and chrome arches

And everywhere there were hordes of gorgeous people puffing on perfumes and

Striking the remorseful strings of decaying cellos and pitching

Their voices for the performance on their telephones and in slammed

Vendor lines and upon streets doused in the sick, slick radiance

Of petroleum puddles and all these people, they eyed the certain freak with

Noble apprehension, their eyebrows starched like their shirt collars

And lifted up grazing their hairlines and though nobody understood

Her, our certain freak, she was a goddamned heroine if ever there was one

For she felt no

Pain or pleasure sleeping on the sidewalk and she felt no

Shame peddling the wares of her mind and body for chump change

And blast it all, she soon found footing because as it turns out

Her colossal weirdness was a weapon of holy design and though it

Unsettled others it settled them also as creatures of comfort grow

Bored and so tired of the dull haze of their own malaise

And she, our certain freak, was perfect in that she never considered

Herself a freak and she had no notion at all of her own weirdness and

She unleashed her gift with such nonchalance and so expectantly

That it disarmed these tight, fed-up, fickle, farce-fed

Folks who at first paid her neither heed nor hunch that is until

A flicker of a smile here, a tug of an ear there,

The freak was freed and was loosed upon that there town and

The people living there soon they started to think of

Themselves as freaks

And, uncertain, it came to pass that the freak had gotten the freaks

And the law of the jungle had broken in the city.
